illustrations

I haven't ever used this journal to showcase my artwork, but I've been on an illustrative kick lately and felt like sharing.

There's just something about hands and fingers that intrigue me. I love the shape they take and how expressive and gestural they can be. Recently I've been drawing lots of hands and experimenting with them in Photoshop, and I kind of like how they're turning out. I'm even considering making some icons from them, or maybe t-shirts designs?

What do you think? And what other fun gestures should I try? (appropriate gestures, please *LOL*)

Any comments are very much appreciated! :o)

my goodness, I love them! Those are amazing. I've had the hardest time trying to draw hands and fingers in art class, which makes me look at these in awe even more!

maybe you could make your own sign-language alphabet like this? a very personal one. would be cool. like how the Raconteurs used it in their video for Hands..!

Now that's a very cute idea. I was listening to "Hands" a lot while drawing these, which I guess is very appropriate ;o) I love the idea of the personal sign language. I may just try it out - thanks for the comment!

Nice! Very clean. I liked the "rock" one's icon more than the full size. The icon would look nice on a shirt, maybe with "ROCK" on the back or something. Good job!

Thanks! I really like the "rock" one, too. I agree, I think it looks better without the words. I'll definitely consider the t-shirt idea.

OH OH OH GORGEOUS!!

I adore the ones with text - especially 'Hold onto love'. If you printed that on a tshirt I would buy it right now!!

Dude - I'm such a fan of your work! Do you think I could list you as one of my favourite artists? Like... up there with Basquiat and Warhol ;)

Hmm... suggestions:

With two fingers? ...as in peace!! :P
'I'm with stupid' with like a pointing hand?
Maybe a 'shh' gesture or a beckoning finger? Or... ok im out!

x xx

Wow, I don't know if I deserve to be ranked among the likes of Warhol, but I'm definitely flattered you like my stuff ;o)

Thanks for the suggestions! :oD

these are amazing... such clean and simple lines... i really like the 'hold onto love' one. i like the rock one too, but more without the words.

i can't get over how much expression you've captured... once again, they're amazing.

Thank you!! I don't know what I'd do without Photoshop, it absolutely does WONDERS to my messy sketches.

I'm so glad you like them, thanks for the comment! :o)

Perhaps you could do "love" in sign language--it's just like "rock on" only with the thumb out. :)

I LOVE these!
I agree with [info]a_meatbag_01. They'd look great on a t-shirt. You can say so much with only your hands.
Suggestions:
Thumb and index finger together like a little 'o'. Means good/fantastic.
Praying hands.
Little animals you can do with your hand like the dog.

Thanks for the help! :o)

You know, these might look really good in a layout somehow.
And I agree with lj user="a_meatbag_01"> too, I'd love to have a shirt with something like that on it.

These are great! Your talent knows no end. ;)

I agree with [info]711icons. I think animals would be cute--if you want to include arms too, you could make a girafe! Other ideas: thumbs up (or down!), and...hmm, I don't how to describe this one, but it's what people do when they say someone's chatty.

If you want to do sign language, here's a good website: http://www.fctd.info/images/signs.jpg The pictures aren't very clear, but it's got the basic letters.

Very good ideas! I do love the animal idea a lot, and I think I know the "chatty" one you're referring to - like when someone imitates a mouth jabbering: "blah blah blah" *LOL* - very cute idea.

And thanks for the link! I'll definitely refer to it if I decide to do the sign language! ;o)

Shit. I have been missing OUT! Woman, you're sharing art with the world when I'm outta town? Not cool! *LOL* j/k. This is one of the coolest (and most original ideas) you've conjured up yet. I'm in love with the concept--and your final results! I agree w/ most people -- I would put the "Hold Onto Love" and "Rock On" ones onto a t-shirt and buy it immediately. Although I especially love someone's idea on here to do a sketch of "Love" in sign language. That's definitely something I'd love to see! ;o)

Superb job, as always my dear. God, how I envy you.

Hey, I love your icons! Sorry, I've taken a couple but I always forget to comment >.<
I've finally friended you, since now I'm addicted to your icons and won't use anything else! Those hand drawings are fantastic, by the way.
You should try some with both hands, maybe. You can express so much more with both.
